Edam.
Anthony Beek was born in 1882 in Edam. He took his first painting lessons in Amsterdam before continuing his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris.
He was a member of the 'Kunstvereeniging Gerard Dou'. His first monumental paintings 'De Kevelaar', 'Kerkgang bij avond', the 'Nachtwacht van Edam' and 'St. Maartenfeest' were discovered by the Dutch painter D.B. Nanninga, who introduced him to the art firm of Meijer W. Goudeket (1903-1943) in Amsterdam. The young artist then painted for this internationally active company. A specialty of Anthony Beek was the interpretation of the colours of old masters such as Rembrandt and Gerard Dou.
Painting and frame in reasonable condition. The frame is rather large.
The painting will not be sold to the USA due to import duties.
