Condition Assessment:
- Overall State: In very good original condition, consistent with its age.
- Surface & Luster: The painting is finished with a traditional artist’s varnish that has been beautifully preserved over the decades. This protective layer does two things: it brings out the deep, rich "earth tones" of the paint and adds a gentle, golden warmth to the highlights.
- Reverse: The reverse of the frame - its backing paper seals have minor tears. No gallery labels or markings are present.
Expert Opinion & Authentication:
- Preliminary Assessment: The owner sought a preliminary valuation from a specialized auction house in Seville, a firm with a documented history of handling works by Joaquín Sáenz. Their specialist feedback concluded that "it certainly appears to be an original work by the painter Joaquín Sáenz."

Biographical & Historical Context
- JOAQUÍN SÁENZ (Seville, 1931–2017)
- Joaquín Sáenz was a leading figure of Andalusian Lyrical Realism.
- His early career was deeply intertwined with the family printing house, Gráficas del Sur (on Calle San Eloy), which served as the primary subject for his celebrated "Imprenta" series.
Exhibition History & References:
- 1968 Milestone: This work was painted during the artist’s "breakthrough" year, coinciding with his first major solo exhibition at the Galería La Pasarela in Seville.
- Notable Collections: His work is represented in the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Sevilla, the Banco de España Collection, and the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Vilafamés.
- Style: Known for his "sfumato" or misty light, this piece captures the quietude of a studio interior. The geometric tiled floor—a recurring motif in his 1960s "Imprenta" and interior series—provides a structural counterpoint to the soft, diffused light entering from the garden.
