MEDSAN, a 40×40 cm Giclée on a wooden panel, titled Digital Yokozuna (デジタルの横綱) – hand signed, edition limited to 1, created in 2026, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
High-quality Giclée print mounted on a wooden stretcher - Hand-signed and numbered - 2026
Signed work by Medsan, an artist member of Atelier Joconde, renowned for his détournements of cultural icons and bold stylistic fusions.
In this striking creation titled "The Digital Yokozuna," Medsan orchestrates a fascinating new collision of time. The work, offered as a high-quality Giclée print, confronts the raw power of traditional Japanese sumo wrestlers with contemporary video game culture, all set against a textured purple background reminiscent of the wood veins in classic Ukiyo-e prints.
The composition features a formidable Edo-period sumo, identifiable by his traditional hairstyle (chonmage) and his ample robe adorned with cloud and wave motifs (seigaiha). His face, frozen in an expression of extreme concentration worthy of a decisive bout, humorously contrasts with the ongoing action: his massive hands delicately hold a cyan-blue handheld console. The light emanating from the screen subtly irradiates his face, creating a hypnotic focal point and underscoring the scene’s intentional anachronism.
As usual, Medsan integrates his signature in Japanese characters (katakana) in a traditional-style vertical cartouche located in the upper right corner (メドサン).
A graphic, offbeat work deeply rooted in Pop Art, perfect for a collector passionate about Japan, gaming culture, and striking visuals.

About Atelier Joconde:
Atelier Joconde is a collective of artists united around a living, plural contemporary creation. Established as a true art production space, the studio operates both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. Beside him, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo engages in a more instinctive search, blending abstract art, outsider art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, produced, and supervised within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and an identity unique to each artist.
Keywords: Sumo, Yokozuna, Video games, Handheld console, Anachronism, Japan, Ukiyo-e, Pop Art, Mashup, Humor, Purple, Medsan, Atelier Joconde, Giclée, Limited Edition, Contemporary art, Square format.
