Description
The Smiths, formed in Manchester in 1982, are widely considered the most influential British guitar group of the 1980s. Louder Than Bombs was originally released in March 1987, specifically for the American market to compile singles and B-sides that were difficult to find in the States. The album's title is a tribute to Elizabeth Smart’s prose poem By Grand Central Station I Sat Down and Wept. The cover features Shelagh Delaney, the author of A Taste of Honey, a major literary influence on Morrissey's lyrical style. This compilation is famous for housing some of the band's most beloved tracks that never appeared on their four studio albums, including "Sheila Take a Bow" and "Shoplifters of the World Unite."
Condition
Tape: Presumed MINT (unplayed)
Case: Factory-sealed, never opened (small tear on corner, see pics)
Notes for collectors
This is the original 1987 US Sire release, easily identified by the specific typography and the iconic "Specially-Priced Double Play Single Cassette" sticker on the front. This edition is highly sought after because it condensed the 24-track double-LP onto a single high-capacity cassette. Finding an original Sire pressing in its original factory seal is becoming exceptionally rare, as most copies from this era were played extensively. The seal is tight with visible "H" markings on the plastic case typical of US manufacturing plants from this period.
