Karl Lagasse, a renowned artist, gained prominence in 2009 with his sculptures One Dollar, ranking among the top ten under-30 sculptors according to Artprice in that same year. In 2012, the New York publication Farameh named him one of the fifty best contemporary artists, inspired by traditional American icons, in its book FOR WHICH IT STANDS: Americana in Contemporary Art. More recently, in 2016, at the Art Paris Art Fair, the President of the French Republic warmly congratulated Karl on his impressive 2-meter bronze sculpture One Dollar, exhibited at the Grand Palais.

Karl’s artistic career began at age 7 with collages, prompted by his meeting with sculptor César Baldaccini. He then turned to tagging and graffiti in the Paris metro while remaining passionate about collages. Artist Yvaral Vasarely encouraged him to merge his tags with his collages. In 2003, Karl prepared his first exhibition in Paris, which led to his first solo show in 2006 at the Isy Brachot gallery in Brussels. In 2008, he returned to Paris with an exhibition combining paintings, sculptures, and video elements at the Espace Pierre Cardin.

Karl particularly enjoys unveiling his works at international exhibitions. In 2011, he was represented by Bel Air Fine Art gallery at the Art Monaco fair with his Cryptogram One. The following year, he presented his One Dollar works under the theme “In God We Trust” at the Artco France gallery. His solo exhibition of 2016 at Galerie Atrium in Marbella, Spain, was opened by the mayor, who praised his works in front of the international press.

In 2010, he was chosen to represent Deauville at the Horsemania world championship in Lexington, where he created a sculpture of a horse dedicated to the event. In 2012, he offered Deauville his Cryptogram One sculpture, a symbolic bronze of peace and love, located at the city entrance. In the same year, in collaboration with Corbis, he built a monumental sculpture for the Cannes Film Festival, using photographs from 1945 to 2011, signed by personalities such as Alexandra Lamy and Matthew McConaughey.

The artist rose to prominence in 2009 with his “One Dollar” sculptures, which earned him a place among the world’s top ten under-30 sculptors according to Artprice.

In 2017, he was selected to design the trophies for the 43rd American Film Festival. Drawing inspiration from “Cryptogramme One,” he created a trophy in polished aluminum cast with a mirror finish, featuring messages such as “Hope,” “7th Art,” and “Deauville” on its four faces. For the 46th edition of the Festival in 2020, Karl Lagasse received an order to create a new trophy, inspired by an emblematic Deauville symbol: the design of the barriers that separate the cabines on the Planches.

In 2016, France Culture mentioned Karl in an article about his monumental installation, A Piece of Heaven on Earth, which combines a Maserati wrapped in white plastic and a Jesus statue surrounded by dollar-shaped sculptures, symbolizing human debt. This work was unveiled at the Art Paris Art Fair 2015 in collaboration with Maserati. In 2017, he created the Deauville American Film Festival Trophy, inspired by his Cryptogramme One and adding messages such as “Hope” and “7th Art” to the trophies.
