DENONNE, Alexandre
Saint-Josse-ten-Noode (Brussels), 1879 - Saint-Gilles (Brussels), 1953
Painter of rustic interiors, urban scenes, still lifes and seascapes, draftsman. Student of his uncle V. Lagye, of C. Montald (Brussels Academy, 1891-1900) and of H. Luyten whom he regards as his master. Early influences from J. Smits: paintings with social subjects. A late adherent of plein air painting, he specializes in the expressive and luminous rendering of picturesque corners of Brussels. Professor of drawing and art history at the Athénée du Centre.
