Description from the seller
A fabulous illuminated miniature folio from a Quran originating in the state of Bihar, India, circa 1425. The folio contains scripture from the Meccan chapter 31, Luqman, v.10-17, which focus on the themes of Allah’s creative power, the accountability of human actions, and vital wisdom regarding faith, moral conduct, and patience. Verse 17 in particular serves as a condensed quide to life: "O my dear son! Establish prayer, encourage what is good and forbid what is evil, and endure patiently whatever befalls you. Surely this is a resolve to aspire to".
Luqman was a wise, righteous African man (not a prophet) granted wisdom by Allah, known for giving profound ethical advice to his son regarding monotheism, gratitude, and humility. ,
It is written in a Arabic naskh script, with black ink and red diactritical markings to guide the devotee through prayer. In this case there are 17 lines of fine script with gold 'aya' marking the verses and several 'Allah' in gold thuluth font. The folio has an elaborate decorative marginal illuminating the text, marking the 10th and 15th verses of the chapter.
