Description from the seller
Charles Uzzell-Edwards alias 'Pure Evil' (*1968), Marlene Dali, circa 2010. Color screenprint, 35.9 x 24.5 cm, signed in pencil at the bottom right with the artist's name and monogram, bottom left identified as No. 27/50.
- in excellent condition
- Icon and Irony -
Pure Evil's works fuse Street Art with Pop Art, where the seriality of street art created via stencils is already a means of Pop Art.
By juxtaposing Marlene Dietrich and Salvatore Dali, the artist not only creates a 'double icon' and thereby questions the status of iconicity, but also breaks the iconic by repeating Marcel Duchamp's gesture, who granted the Mona Lisa a moustache.
about the artist
Charles Uzzell-Edwards alias 'Pure Evil' moved from London to California after a design studies program in 1990, where he produced electronic music and designed clothing for over ten years. Inspired by the West Coast graffiti scene, he returned to London and pursued street art. His distinctive signet was a vampire rabbit with fangs. Later he began producing print graphics and canvas works, often incorporating street-art stencils.
His works have been exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris and other places.
