Description from the seller
Daniel Hartmann:
Civilian Dwelling Construction Art, Or: A Thorough Report, How on a given site a well-proportioned dwelling-house, beside its locksmithing, the dismantling of the cruciform vaulted cellar, stairs, spirals, whose crooked and broad steps, slanted windows, buffing of the head and handles, how such may be built in the most delicate and enduring manner: For its further understanding, however, everything is drawn in the most trustworthy copper plates, eighteen in total and very useful. To all lovers of civil buildings, also stonemasons, quarrymen, bricklayers, and coopers, especially to young aspiring masters, before they proceed to fashion their master-piece, very helpful.
With date-title and 18 copperplates (of which 11 folding and 6 double-page) as well as an embedded, titled vignette. Basel, Johann Philipp Richter, 1688. 4to. (31.6 x 19.7 cm). Front matter, copper title, [3] leaves, 40 pp., plates. Late HB edition. With manuscript back cover label (more stained and rubbed, boards damaged and partly detached).
VD17 23:270482Y - Bircher C 101. – Second edition, first published 1673.
Rare building manual by the Basel-based “Zimmerwerckmeister.” - The allegorical vignette with the text “Und das könten wir alle” shows the globe on a measuring table with a hand growing out. The plates provide floor plans, stair and vaulted constructions, as well as façade designs.
At the margins somewhat dusty and speckled, initially somewhat dog-eared in the lower corner, small stamp on front matter and title. One plate with a small tear. Text browned, edges slightly foxed.
