Description from the seller
Pope (1985) - "Aurora Original-Fälschung" - 9/30
When the copy becomes more real than the original.
Following the success of the Aurora Borealis series — imitated, copied and finally censored in the name of the “brand rights” — the artist Pope returns with a new luminous provocation.
This time, a homage to Germany and its obsession with industrial rigor: here is “Aurora Original-Fälschung.”
A pop art lamp whose base unabashedly displays 'FÄLSCHUNG' (counterfeit in German), accompanied by the ironic warning 'NICHT KAUFEN'. Hard to resist the urge to bid.
By day, a chromed teddy bear with metallic reflections, almost futuristic.
By night, an explosion of multicolored auroras lighting up your walls.
A striking contrast, an assumed irony: turning the fake copy into a true work of art.
Edition limited to 30 copies for 2025, signed, numbered and delivered with a certificate of authenticity.
Fast and careful shipping (bubble wrap, tissue paper and reinforced carton) with signature on delivery.
Specifications:
- 7 luminous colors
- 3 diffusion modes (static, fading transitions, simple transitions)
- Power supply via USB cord with switch (included)
- Height: 20 cm
- Width: 9 cm
- Depth: 9 cm
A collectible object that subverts censorship into art, and turns the “Aurora Original-Fälschung” into a true original.
Who is Pope?
Pope, co-founder of the AMA collective, develops a singular artistic universe driven by a practice of the visual arts since childhood, a high standard of detail and meticulous visual research.
Through sculptures, paintings and installations, he draws inspiration from photography, urban landscapes and everyday scenes, with a sensitive and amazed gaze, attentive to both the simplicity and the complexity of the world around him.
Pope primarily draws inspiration from the world around him but also from movements of renowned artists such as Banksy, Keith Haring, Koons, Orlinski, Takashi, Fred Allart, Shepard Fairey, Warhol, Yayoi Kusama, Richard Hamilton, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Alec Monopoly, KAWS, Pantone, Mr. Brainwash, Blek le Rat, to name just a few.
Whether it’s a gift, a memento, or your personal collection of contemporary art, you’ll easily find your favorite among our works thanks to the diversity of our offerings. Indeed, Pope channels his passion for urban art through street art (streetart) and pop art (popart) (in limited editions or not), addressing a wide range of themes such as cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, Ethereum), the dollar, money, gold, wealth, the sex industry, drug harms, luxury brands and haute couture, the world of comics and video games, the pharmaceutical industry and medicines, recycling and upcycling, and products of the agri-food and fashion industries (sport, sneakers...).
Brands guide our choices and often our lives without us realizing it. Aware of this impact, Pope enjoys playfully twisting labels such as Louis Vuitton (LV), Chanel, Dior, Hermès, Prada, Gucci, Rolex, Yves Saint Laurent (YSL), Supreme, Obey, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Bugatti, AMG, Mercedes, Nike (Air Jordan), Adidas (Stan Smith), Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Marvel and Avengers (Batman, Joker, Superman...), Disney (Mickey, Scrooge McDuck...), Nintendo, Sega, Tintin, Lego, Pokemon, Vans and many others.
Dear bidders, our collective makes every effort to ensure that all information necessary to appraise the lot offered is clearly detailed in the listing: dimensions, weight, description and photos... After the sale, no unjustified claim will be considered. Thank you for your understanding.
