Description from the seller
David Law
Photographer Artist – Creator of contemporary images
Multidisciplinary photographic artist, author and musician, David Law develops work focused on gaze, presence, and the perception of the image in urban space. He first made a name for himself with a series devoted to storefront mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superimpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. Later intrigued by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he extends this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light, and composition, these inanimate models acquire a disturbing, almost living presence, questioning our relation to illusion and projection.
Series - Faces in Transition
This series offers a contemporary reinterpretation of the pin-up aesthetics of the 50s/60s through a modern visual approach. Each work is created using current digital tools, then refined to incorporate a painterly texture inspired by oil painting. Elements of pop art and street art — drips, textures, and collages — enrich the composition while preserving the legibility of the subject. The overall effect creates a balance between classical elegance and contemporary visual energy, capturing moments of life that are both light and expressive.
Edition & Fabrication
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies plus 4 artist’s proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are made on aluminum with a rear mount integrated. Printing on luminous white vinyl, mounted between two aluminum plates, with flexible UV- and humidity-resistant lamination, guaranteeing excellent durability, long-term stability of colors, and a modern, contemporary rendering.
Background
Since 2014, David Law participates in about twenty contemporary art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the official photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. In parallel with his visual activity, he develops an authorial and musical practice including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photo book, and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the band FRENZY.
