Here is a magnificent and imposing abstract drawing by the Belgian artist Silvin Bronkart (1915-1967), dated 1952.
Silvin Bronkart is a major figure in post-war Belgian abstraction. A member of the group Réalité-Cobra, he develops a very personal language made of dynamic lines, organic forms, and strong graphic force. His works from the 1950s are particularly sought after for their maturity and power.
This large drawing (a rare format for his works on paper) features a dense and rhythmic composition: a complex network of energetic black lines, arcs, curves, and planes that create an impression of movement and depth. The work exudes a real graphic tension, typical of the artist’s most accomplished period.
This beautiful and large drawing represents an exceptional opportunity for lovers and collectors of Belgian abstract art, the School of Liège, and the post-Cobra movement. Significant format, key year (1952), present signature, and impeccable family provenance: all the quality and rarity criteria are met.
Photos: numerous detailed views (overall, signature, textures and composition) for a perfect appreciation of the work.
Artist biography:
Silvin Bronkart (1915-1967), born Sylvain Bronckart, is one of the most striking and original figures of post-war Belgian abstraction. Born in Liège, he trained at the Institut Saint-Luc under Félix Proth. From the 1940s, he fully embraced abstraction and became a key player in the renewal of Walloon art.
A member of the Art Réalité group and closely linked to the Réalité-Cobra movement (alongside Georges Collignon, Léopold Plomteux and Pol Bury), he develops a personal language of great expressive power. His compositions, rhythmically driven by energetic lines and organic forms, combine structure and lyricism in a unique graphic tension.
The works of the 1950s, a particularly fruitful period, testify to the full maturity of his talent. Today, Silvin Bronkart is recognized as a major artist of the Liège School, and his work continues to appeal to discerning collectors with its power, authenticity, and timeless modernity."
