Description from the seller
Large oil on canvas – E.M. Bouvier – Study for a large composition – Gypsy scene in Camargue (Provence)
Beautiful and large oil on canvas signed E.M. Bouvier, painter active in the south of France in the 20th century.
This work depicts a Gypsy encampment at Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, an emblematic scene of Camargue, with a dancer, musicians and caravans in a warm and lively atmosphere.
The back of the painting bears handwritten inscriptions of origin, including the phrase “study for a large canvas,” indicating a preparatory work. However, the composition is finished and perfectly balanced, making it a decorative piece in its own right. The work is also dedicated by the artist, adding a unique and personal character.
Beautiful pictorial quality with impasto, typical of Provençal painting of the period.

Technique: Oil on canvas
Signature: bottom right
Condition: Good overall condition, slight signs of aging
Provenance: Provence, France
An authentic and expressive work, capturing the atmosphere of the south and the richness of Camargue traditions.
Careful and secure shipping.
