Bronze Ottoman magic talisman plaque of Afghanistan origin, 10 × 7 cm, 22 g, dating to 1800–1850, Islamic style and unisex, in very good condition with slight signs of wear, titled OTTOMAN MAGIC TALISMAN.
Description from the seller
A very rare and impressive Ottoman-period talismanic plaque (17th–18th century), entirely covered with dense hand-engraved inscriptions.
The front displays a powerful lion motif, surrounded by continuous Arabic calligraphy covering the entire surface. The reverse side is equally detailed, featuring stylized human figures filled with magic squares, numbers, and esoteric scripts, leaving almost no empty space.
Such objects were traditionally used for protection, spiritual power, and magical purposes, believed to guard against the evil eye and negative energies. The richness and intensity of the engravings clearly indicate a devotional and possibly tekke (dervish) work.
An exceptionally rare, fully inscribed piece, with beautiful aged patina and strong historical character.
