BIOGRAPHIE
A name that resonates like a lucky charm when you know the symbolic meaning of the number attached to this young artist’s first name. After a career in aerospace, she decides to return to her lifelong passion.
Born in Lyon in 1974, Johanne 8 lives and works today in Paris. An established contemporary artist, she has been exhibiting her paintings and sculptures since 2008 in recognized galleries. Her works are shown from Melbourne to Barcelona, via Lausanne or Geneva, as well as in France: Paris, Deauville, Megève, Courchevel, Arcachon, or Saint-Tropez…
She has also moved into prestigious venues such as Le Grand Palais de Lille for Lille Art-Up or L’Urban Art-Fair in Paris.

Thus the artist defines herself today as an heir to Bad Painting, a movement of American graffiti artists. She joins the young artistic movement of “Street Pop” which she shares with other artists like Benjamin Spark, a young and talented Belgian artist.
Observed and chosen by major fashion names Paul & Joe, Karl Lagerfeld (Chanel) and Olivier Rousteing (Balmain); and French gastronomy, the three-starred chef Anne-Sophie Pic, Johanne 8 continues her path and keeps renewing herself.
When Johanne 8 returns to settle in Paris, it is to devote herself fully to her first loves: she writes screenplays intended for cinema and television. At the same time, she picks up the brushes again and exhibits canvases where the diversity of techniques used goes hand in hand with the plurality and richness of visual codes.
Intentionally Johanne 8 makes images clash, mingled with words, in order to transcribe her inner whirlwind and the variety of her artistic and cultural references. She allows the viewer to question their own cultural mosaic, what constitutes today our blended identities.
She has just developed a new technique to give extra depth to her creations, drawing inspiration from the candy brands she likes to apply on the canvases (Milky Way, Bounty, Galak, Mars…).
This is not without recalling that the artist grew up in the 80s and is fully infused with that culture.
In her paintings you will surely find references to those who have always inspired her, Basquiat, Warhol, Lichtenstein, Erro, or Julio Le Parc.
Her universe also includes Pulp, 1950s comics, as well as current international news and major social themes.
