Title:
Two relief plaques of the Stations of the Cross – Cleto Tomba / Minghetti Manufacturing, Bologna – 20th century
Description:
Lot consisting of two bas-relief plaques depicting scenes of the Stations of the Cross, made to the model of sculptor Cleto Tomba (1896–1987) and produced by the historic Minghetti manufactory of Bologna.
The works feature sculpted relief figures with hand-painted polychromy, depicting episodes of the Passion of Christ, including the carrying of the cross. On the back there is a handwritten inscription attesting provenance “from a model by Tomba” and reference to the Minghetti manufactory – Bologna.
The plaques are made of ceramic/plaster material (probably terracotta or patinated plaster), typical of the artistic and devotional production of the Bologna-based manufactory in the first half of the 20th century.
Objects of historical-artistic interest, linked to the tradition of Italian sacred art of the twentieth century and to the collaboration between sculpture and ceramic manufacture.
Conditions:
Good overall condition, with signs of wear, light wear and small imperfections consistent with age. (Please study the photographs carefully for details.)
Dimensions:
41x39 cm
Provenance:
Italy (Bologna)
Notes:
Sold as a single lot consisting of two elements belonging to a larger series (Stations of the Cross).
