Oil painting on canvas by Le Yack (Alexandre Pelletier), titled The White Drape, 100% Handmade, a unique original work, 60 x 80 cm, signed, 2023.
Description from the seller
Oil painting. Unique work. Handmade canvas, oil and acrylic paint. 60x80 cm
A woman draped in white sits on a gray concrete staircase. She does not look at the viewer—her gaze is slightly turned to the side, toward something that will not be seen. At her feet, a bouquet of flowers scattered on the cold ground: pink peonies, white daisies, a yellow flower. They have fallen, or been set down — we do not know if it is a gift or an abandonment.
Le Yack works here in a classical and austere register—the palette is almost entirely desaturated, concrete gray, deep shadow, cold light—and it is precisely this stripping away that makes explode the two sole elements of color: the warmth of the skin and the gleam of the flowers on the ground. The white drapery, painted with the precision of a sculptor, evokes antique statuary without ever slipping into pastiche. This woman is of today. Yet she could be of forever.
It is a painting about fragility—the fragility one chooses to display, and the fragility one cannot hide.
