Théâtre Complet – 2 Volumes, works by Corneille, a French revised edition published by Garnier Frères à Paris in the second half of the 19th century, bound in brown half‑morocco with marbled boards, 1208 pages total (592 in Vol. I and 616 in Vol. II), 12.5 x 19 cm, illustrated with hand‑coloured plates based on drawings by M. Geffroy, in good condition.

Théâtre Complet – 2 Volumes (Works by Corneille)

A beautiful two-volume set of Théâtre Complet, containing the plays of Pierre Corneille, published by Garnier Frères in Paris.
Volume I opens with a biography of Corneille. The tables of contents of all plays are shown in the photos. The work is illustrated with hand-coloured full-length plates, based on drawings by M. Geffroy. It includes portraits, among them one of Corneille himself, followed by depictions of principal characters from his plays, such as Medea, Horatio, Don Sanche d’Aragon and Emperor Augustus.

Volume II: 616 pages
Dimensions: 12.5 x 19 cm
Bound in brown half-morocco leather, with marbled boards. The spines are richly and elegantly gilt-decorated, and the top edges are gilt in fine gold.
The interiors are fresh and well-preserved. The text pages appear unread. The plates show some foxing. Overall in very good condition.
A very attractive and decorative set for collectors of classical French literature.
