Roger Blondel (1912-1981) originates from Rouen, where he also attended the School of Fine Arts. He specialized in the creation of statues and façades. In Rouen, for example, he worked on the façade and sculptures of the Palace of Justice. A document also mentions that he was affiliated with the École des Beaux-Arts of Rouen.
Besides stone, Roger Blondel also worked with wood and clay.
The through-line of his work is the woman in all her facets.
His statues can be seen in various places in France, but his distinctive style of working with strong lines and voluptuous women sometimes faced resistance as his work was judged offensive and too modern. For example, there is a well-known case where the mayor of a city eventually decided to pay for the statue himself, after which it was still placed in the city.
