Description from the seller

More than two full years of La Mode illustrée are bound into a sturdy volume weighing 6 kg and 7 cm thick!

The set runs from November 8, 1896 to December 25, 1898.

La Mode illustrée, subtitled Journal de la famille, is a magazine founded in 1860 by Emmeline Raymond. Not elitist, it is intended for middle-class women. The author offers her best advice to help women in many aspects of their domestic life (fashion, sewing, hairstyling, and interior decoration) as well as advice on family life and social conduct. Madame Raymond would run this magazine, one of the references of the nineteenth-century women's press, from 1860 to 1902. The magazine, which includes, among other things, high-quality illustrations, enjoyed considerable success and was sold as far as the United States.

29 x 40 cm, 63 + 576 + 632 pages. Half-leather garnet binding, smooth spine with title and gilt borders. Binding worn, joints split, tears and losses on the back. Some pages have reading tears, sometimes previously restored. Foxing.
