About the artist:
Stelios Pupet (born 1983), known as Pupet, is a Greek contemporary visual artist who lives and works in Athens. A graduate of the Athens School of Fine Arts, he has established himself as an important figure on the national and international art scene through a practice that combines traditional techniques and digital processes.
Originating from urban culture and graffiti, Pupet has progressively developed a personal visual language, where figuration plays a central role. His work explores themes such as identity, memory and the perception of reality, inviting the viewer to reflect on the human condition and the contemporary world. Paintings, installations and urban interventions compose a coherent body of work, marked by a distinctive aesthetic and a subtle use of color and structure.
For several years, the notion of the grid has become a fundamental element of his creative process. First appearing during digital experiments intended to be transposed into screen printing, the grid gradually established itself as a conceptual and formal tool. Far from a rigid frame, it acts as a guide, structuring the image while leaving room for intuition and chance. This tension between geometric construction, minimalism and pictorial expressivity gives rise to dynamic compositions where tradition and innovation constantly dialogue.
His work is distinguished by a mastered fusion between academic painting, contemporary visual culture and digital technologies. The figures he portrays, often fragmented or reinterpreted through the weave, seem to evolve between materiality and dematerialization, between constructed image and deconstructed image. This ongoing search for new modes of expression bears witness to a demanding experimental approach.
Shown in Greece and abroad, Pupet is pursuing an evolving artistic trajectory, establishing his place among the most distinctive Greek contemporary artists of his generation. His work, at the crossroads of figurative and conceptual, is part of a contemporary reflection on the image, its reproduction and transformation in the digital era.
