Description from the seller
Natali Wood (Spain, 1978)
Fir – Black charcoal ink engraving on rice paper
Original graphic work by the Spanish artist Natali Wood, created through an artisanal engraving process from a wood matrix worked with the Japanese technique Yakisugi (Shou Sugi Ban).
In this process the surface of the wood is slightly charred by fire, which allows revealing and accentuating the natural grain structure. Subsequently the matrix is inked by hand and printed on delicate rice paper, capturing the organic texture of the wood with great depth and contrast.
The result is a composition of strong visual impact in black charcoal ink, where the shape of the tree emerges from the real grain of the wood. The work reflects Natali Wood's interest in manual processes, nature and the transformation of natural materials into artistic language.
Each print presents slight variations inherent to the manual printing process, which gives a unique character to each copy of the edition.
The small irregularities inherent to the rice paper and to the manual printing process are part of the artisanal character of the work.
