lina ravazzoni - Immagini sacre

Works by Lina Ravazzoni, a Lombard artist about whom I have only 'family' stories and no critical analyses. The drawings, of delicate workmanship, are presumably executed in sanguine on paper (frames sealed as in the photo), and depict sacred figures that can be iconographically identified as the Virgin Mary in the 1958 piece (23.5 x 19 cm). Attribution of the subject in 1956 is more problematic, but since it is set in a frame with a stand, it could be a guardian angel / Archangel Gabriel, as such works were given to protect a newborn or for Holy Communion/Confirmation (the 1956 piece coincided with a Holy Communion held within the family).
