Description from the seller
Copy of the original edition of the novel L'Été à Dresde by Philippe Vilain, published by Gallimard in the prestigious L'Infini collection in October 2003.
A copy of documented and verifiable rarity.
The title page bears a fully handwritten autograph dedication by Philippe Vilain, addressed to Gérard Genette (1930–2018), an internationally renowned literary theorist, author of Figures (Seuil), Palimpsests and Seuils, foundational works of narratology and modern poetics. Genette is considered one of the most important intellectual figures of the second half of the 20th century.
Provenance exceptional and verifiable:
The dedication is dated September 15, 2003.
The printer's imprint in the book indicates the same date: September 15, 2003.
The official in-store publication date was October 2, 2003.
This copy is therefore an authentic press copy, handed by the author to Gérard Genette on the day of the book’s printing, 17 days before it went on sale to the public. This type of copy — handed directly from an author to a leading intellectual figure before any commercial distribution — represents the category most sought after by bibliophiles and collectors of contemporary literature.
Overall condition: Very good. Softcover, clean cover with no notable flaws.
Author: Philippe Vilain (born 1969), French novelist published by Gallimard and Grasset, whose novel Pas son genre was adapted to the cinema by Lucas Belvaux.
