Beit Hayotzer ceramic wall hanging in the shape of an elephant from Israel, dating to 1960–1970, made of ceramic.
Description from the seller
Title: Beit Hayotzer ceramic wall hanging – elephant – Israel, 1960s/70s
Description:
Charming ceramic wall hanging in the shape of a stylized elephant, made by Beit Hayotzer. This handmade piece is characterized by a warm, earthy color palette with nuances of honey brown, olive green and cream, finished with a glossy craquelé glaze. The playful, almost naive design with large eyes and simplified lines gives the object a distinctive decorative and friendly character.
The wall hanging features a rear opening, making it easy to mount on the wall. A beautiful example of mid-century studio ceramics with a clear artistic signature.
Condition:
In good vintage condition with light signs of use appropriate for its age. No cracks or restorations visible.
Background & style:
Beit Hayotzer was a well-known Israeli ceramic atelier active in the second half of the 20th century. The pieces were often handmade and painted, with folkloristic motifs and animal figures popular.
The style of this wall hanging is best described as mid-century modern with a naive/folk character. You can see influences of brutalist ceramics (through the earthy glazes and texture) combined with a playful, almost childlike form language typical of decorative studio ceramics from that period.
Elephants were also commonly depicted as symbols of luck and protection, which makes this piece appealing to collectors on a thematic level as well.
The wall hanging will be carefully packed and insured for shipment with a tracking code!
