Description from the seller
Set of 5 artisanal boxes in bone and horn – India / South Asia
A set of five decorative boxes made from natural material (bone and/or horn) on a wooden frame, enhanced with metallic elements.
This homogeneous lot features the artisanal workmanship characteristic of productions from South Asia (India or nearby region), probably dating from the mid-20th century (circa 1950).
The pieces are distinguished by the variety of their shapes and decorations, as well as by a natural patina tied to time.
- Large rectangular openwork box
Approximately 12.5 × 7.3 cm – height 4.6 cm
Box made of vertical clear-material slats. The lid is adorned with a central diamond-shaped openwork motif, framed by a metallic element. The rim is decorated with engraved metallic friezes. Overall reminiscent of an incense or potpourri box.
- Octagonal box with inlaid decor
Diameter about 10.5 cm – height 5 cm
Eight-sided box featuring a symmetrical decor consisting of inlays in almond shapes, probably in darker horn. The center of the lid is highlighted by a beaded frieze. Metal closure on the front.
- Small rectangular box with rounded lid (figurative decor)
About 6.5 × 4.5 cm – height 2 cm
Box with domed lid, decorated with a scene engraved or drawn depicting a figure and an animal in a stylized landscape. Delicate work, Oriental-inspired.
- Small round box with beaded decor
Diameter about 6 cm – height 3.5 cm
Turned box with segmented decor. The lid features a central metal knob, surrounded by a beaded frieze. Alternating light and darker tones giving the piece depth.
- Small square box with metal clasp
About 4.7 cm – height 2.7 cm
Small case, with slightly domed lid. Openwork decor on the upper part and contrasting side bands. Functional metallic clasp.
