Description from the seller
Anonymous / Joseph Hémard - Songs from Ward Rooms - In the Latin Quarter - 1935
This deluxe edition is particularly sought after due to its clandestine nature and its graphic quality.
The edition, strictly reserved for a group of amateurs, was limited to a small number of copies. This one bears the number 341, attesting that distribution was only to a few hundred copies for the entire print run.
The work is richly illustrated with 64 drawings by Joseph Hémard, consisting of color stencil figures in the text.
Joseph Hémard (1875-1961) was a French draftsman and illustrator renowned for his caricature talent and his lively humor. A specialist in bibliophile publishing, he illustrated with a recognizable style, made up of bold lines and cheerful colors, numerous classics of libertine and humorous literature.
This book compiles bawdy, satirical, and traditional songs sung by medical interns during meals in the ward rooms of hospitals. Curiosa.
The original full-paper soft binding with a folded cover is in good condition.
