This image is a stipple engraving titled "Idyll," which served as the frontispiece to a series called "The Poets of Great Britain, Complete from Chaucer to Churchill".
It is based on a bas-relief sculpted by John Deare (British, 1759–1798), depicting Venus and Cupid.
The engraving technique, characterized by numerous small dots, was attributed to the Italian artist Francesco Bartolozzi.
The artwork features a classical scene with a seated woman crowning a boy with flowers.
