MEDSAN presents Edo Polaroid (江戸のポラロイド) - Handmade! - an original, unique 40 x 40 cm oil and mixed-media painting on canvas, signed by hand in 2026, depicting Pop Art culture with a geisha and retro-futurist Polaroid motif, produced in France and sold directly by the artist, with an authenticity certificate.
Description from the seller
Acrylic painting and mixed media on a stretched canvas mounted on a wooden frame - Hand-signed - 2026
Work signed Medsan, artist member of Atelier Joconde, known for his reappropriations of cultural icons and bold stylistic fusions.
With this original square-format piece, Medsan delivers a resolutely modern and transgressive vision of traditional Japan. The painting features a classic ukiyo-e figure — an elegant geisha — reimagined through the lens of a fascinating retro-futuristic technology.
The visual and temporal contrast is striking: adorned in a magnificent bright red kimono with delicate sakura cherry blossom motifs and traditionally styled hair, our heroine manipulates an astonishing folding camera. This hybrid object, customized with brass gears inspired by steampunk and topped with a vintage flash bulb, instantly produces a photograph in the manner of a Polaroid. The printed image reveals a classic black-and-white landscape depicting Mount Fuji, creating a brilliant mise-en-abyme between the traditional print and the culture of instant images.
The impact of the canvas rests largely on its solid cyan blue background, vibrant and luminous, which literally makes the kimono’s red burst. Worked in acrylic paint and mixed media, the canvas features beautiful textural effects and benefits from a careful varnished finish. This strong, Pop Art-inspired aesthetic makes the contrasts explode between the grace of the Edo period and the acknowledged anachronism of the device. In the upper right corner, the signature “Medsan” calligraphed in Japanese (katakana) in its red cartouche seals the composition.
A hand-painted piece with striking charisma. It’s ideal for adding a colorful, urban, offbeat, and decidedly “steampunk” touch to a stylish interior.

About the Atelier:
Atelier Joconde is a collective of artists united around contemporary living and plural creation. Established as a true workshop for artistic production, the studio operates both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. Beside him, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo engages in a more instinctive pursuit, blending abstract art, brut art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, realized, and supervised within the studio, sharing a common artistic standard and an identity of its own for each artist.
