AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Photographer Ellen Mandemaker (1968) moved to an intensive arable farming area in Friesland and became interested in the world of the potato. The potato is an everyday primordial tuber with a strong personality but also an inert consumer product that is endlessly bred, modified and sprayed until humans can cut perfect fries from it. Mandemaker highlights this contrast in her work. She photographs the Spunta, Lady Rosetta, Cronos, Russet Burbank and Picasso, creates stacks and images of the potatoes, traces the life cycle from seed potatoes to harvest, and took the Picasso potato to the Picasso Museum in Paris.

Mandemaker exhibited this work at the PATATE exhibition at the Van GoghHuis in 2025 and, on that occasion, donated this work for the auction. It is professionally framed.

Van Gogh AiR Charity Auction

The Van GoghHuis invites artists to come and work for a period in Vincent’s birthplace, Zundert. They literally step in Vincent’s footsteps here, and that yields remarkable results. The artists donate works that are auctioned for the benefit of the Van Gogh artist-in-residence program.

Before and during the auction period the works are exhibited at the Van GoghHuis. You can view the works there and, afterwards, pick them up here as well. You will receive notice about the auction afterward.
