Description from the seller
Giovanni Bona, Opera Omnia – Venice, Tipografia Balleoniana, 1764
Giovanni Bona (1609–1674) ranks among the most important spiritual writers and liturgical scholars of the 17th century. As a Cistercian of the Italian Feuillanten-Congregation, of which he was abbot general twice, and finally a cardinal of the Roman Church with the titular rank Sancti Bernardi ad Thermas, he earned the highest esteem in Catholic scholarly circles. The present Opera Omnia unites all the main works published separately during his lifetime into a single corpus – including the Manuductio ad Coelum, the ascetic treatise De Sacrificio Missae, the liturgical-historical main work Rerum Liturgicarum Libri Duo, the handbook De Discretione Spirituum, and the Principia Vitae Christianae. Thus here lies the complete oeuvre of an author who is regarded as a pioneer of modern liturgical science and whose works for generations have served as fundamental reference works on the history of the Eucharist celebration. The edition appeared in 1764 in the renowned Venetian Tipografia Balleoniana, one of the most esteemed printing houses of the 18th century. An outstanding collectible for enthusiasts of Catholic theology, liturgical history, and spirituality of the early modern period.
38x24 cm. 611 pages. Tanned parchment binding of the period. Overall very good condition.
