Seven vintage Russian matryoshka nest dolls dating to the mid 20th century, in good condition and ranging from 12 to 8.5 cm tall, including Nevalyashka-style wobble doll and Semjonov-style designs, with one set missing the top of the middle figure and a total weight of 504 g.
Description from the seller
Auction offered is a charming and diverse collection of 7 vintage wooden matryoshkas (nesting dolls), each with its own unique look and character. This set is ideal for collectors of Russian folk art or as a decorative eye-catcher.
Special Nevalyashka style: The leftmost doll (with the light blue scarf and image of a girl with an instrument) is extra special. It is a so-called 'wobble doll' or 'roly-poly' that cannot be opened but has a weighted base causing it to wobble and emit a soft tinkling bell sound when moved.
Classic Semjonov style: In the designs, such as the third doll from the left, recognizable by the distinctive yellow headscarf and the large red flower on the belly.
Pyrography and Craftsmanship: Several dolls in this set showcase fine handiwork, including techniques such as pyrography (wood burning) combined with hand-painted details and gold/silver accents.
Porcelain Trinket Box: The second doll from the right is a decorative porcelain box (trinket box) with a metal clasp, beautifully decorated in pink and blue tones.
Condition:
In good condition with light signs of handling appropriate for the age, as visible in the photos. The paintings are generally well preserved and the colors are still bright.
Total weight 504 grams.
Carefully packaged and shipped quickly
