The brushwork is visible and direct, emphasizing the material character of the painting and moving away from psychological portraiture to place the image in a more sculptural and timeless territory.

Carmen Morillo is a Spanish visual artist, trained in Fine Arts at the University of Seville. Her career is centered mainly on painting, with a solid training in realism and figuration, complemented by personal research on gesture, matter, and the representation of the human figure. She has broadened her training through specialized courses in drawing, realism, and pictorial figuration at institutions such as Museo Casa Ibáñez (Almería) and the University of Seville.
Her work has been recognized with various national painting prizes, including the National Painting Prize José Arpa and the Second Prize of the National Painting Contest “Ocaña,” as well as with an artist residency grant in Paisaje Altea (Alicante). Parallel to this, she has developed mural art projects in public spaces, also receiving local acknowledgments in this field.
For several years she has balanced her artistic practice with teaching in visual arts, experience that has helped to consolidate her technical mastery and reflection on painting processes. Currently, she has decided to pause teaching to focus her work on studio painting, developing a sustained personal production aimed at original works and exhibition formats.
