Mid-century modern oak stool from the Netherlands, estimated to date to the 1950s, weighing about 5.5 kg, in good used condition with minor signs of aging and spots, with overall height 42 cm, seat height approximately 39 cm, width 45 cm and depth 33.5 cm, finished in oak and described as Brutalist in style.
Description from the seller
Very beautiful oak stool, handmade with a through mortise-and-tenon joint on each side, secured with a wedge. This joint is very reliable, because you can not only easily loosen the connection, but you can also tighten it firmly, as the angled wedge fixes it (see photos).
The stool is 42 cm high at the sides, while the seat height in the middle is about 39 cm. This difference in height is created by the hollow shape of the seating surface. The width is about 45 cm and the depth of the top is 23 cm. The depth at the legs is about 33.5 cm. One of the slats used as support has a crack (see photos). The fastener is still stable.
The stool probably dates from the 1950s, though it could be a little older. The style could be described as brutalist (heavy materials, robust finish with visible joints).
What is very appealing are the artisanal flourishes that are not refined, but testify to craftsmanship. The hollow seating surface is also very beautiful!
The stool is carefully packed and insured for shipping.
