Description from the seller
Square format 40x40 cm - Hand-signed and numbered - 2026
Signed work Medsan, artist member of Atelier Joconde, renowned for bold stylistic fusions and grand appropriations of art history.
In this dazzling creation titled "The Edo Kiss", Medsan orchestrates a masterful mashup between the Viennese Art Nouveau Golden Age and the aesthetics of feudal Japan. He reimagines the iconic Klimt masterwork "The Kiss" by transposing it into the Ukiyo-e print universe. The composition reprises the tender, fusion-loving pose of the original, but the lovers are here replaced by a majestic fully-armed samurai and a woman wearing an opulent kimono.
The genius of this piece lies in the hybridization of motifs: armors and fabrics teem with Klimt’s characteristic geometric shapes (spirals, rectangles, golden mosaics), which blend harmoniously with waves and traditional Japanese chrysanthemums. The lovers embrace on the famous multicolored floral parterre, while the background abandons Klimt’s plain backdrop for a dreamlike landscape adorned with gold leaves, revealing Mount Fuji, a winding river and blooming cherry blossom branches (sakura).
The signature "Medsan" is calligraphed in Japanese characters (katakana) in a traditional vertical cartouche located in the top right corner (メドサン).
A romantic, opulent, and graphically sumptuous work, ideal for a collector fond of contemporary Pop Art, the elegance of Art Nouveau, and the timeless aesthetic of Japan.

About Atelier Joconde:
Atelier Joconde is a workshop of artists gathered around a living and plural contemporary creation. Situated as a true center of artistic production, the studio operates both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work influenced by cinematic and realistic elements. Beside him, Medsan explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo engages in a more instinctive search, blending abstract art, outsider art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, created, and followed within the studio, with a shared artistic demand and an identity unique to each artist.
