Description from the seller
Square format 40x40 cm - Hand-signed and numbered - 2026
Signed artwork Medsan, artist member of Atelier Joconde, renowned for bold stylistic fusions and masterful reinterpretations of the history of art.
In this luminous creation titled "Edo Milkmaid", Medsan orchestrates a poetic encounter between the Dutch Golden Age and the Edo era. He appropriates the celebrated masterpiece "The Milkmaid" by Johannes Vermeer and transposes it with astonishing accuracy into the traditional aesthetics of Japanese printmaking (Ukiyo-e).
The composition perfectly reprises the iconic figure of the maid absorbed in her task, pouring a delicate stream of milk. Her clothing preserves Vermeer’s famous yellow-and-blue color code, deftly adapted with the cut of a kimono and a tied apron. The scene unfolds in a Japanese interior with textured wooden screens. On the table, the original still life appears with its bread basket and blue drapery. As a cultural wink, the wall is adorned with a framed miniature landscape (reminiscent of Mount Fuji views), while a small traditional brazier replaces the Dutch warming booth on the floor.
The work is a high-quality Giclée print reproducing the subtle grain of the wood engraving. The signature "Medsan" is written in Japanese characters (katakana) in a traditional red vertical cartouche located at the top right (メドサン).
A narrative, soothing work with flawless graphic rendering, ideal for a collector fond of revisited art history, cultural Pop Art, and the timeless aesthetics of Japan.

About Atelier Joconde:
Atelier Joconde is a collective of artists united around living, contemporary and plural creation. Established as a true site of artistic production, the workshop operates both in collaborative creation and in individual approaches, depending on the projects and the works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realist influences. By his side, Medsan explores color, modern iconography and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo engages in a more instinctive search, blending abstract art, naive art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, realized and followed within the atelier, with a shared artistic standard and an identity unique to each artist.
