Hand-carved soapstone sculpture from the Qing Dynasty (1644–1911), titled LuoHan.
Description from the seller
A refined small sculpture depicting a Luohan, a figure of Eastern Buddhist tradition symbolizing wisdom, meditation and spiritual detachment.
The work is made of soapstone finely hand-carved, with a beautiful natural patina due to time and use.
The figure is shown seated in a contemplative pose, with a serene and slightly smiling expression, a richly draped monastic robe and details incised with notable precision, visible especially in the decorative borders of the robe and in the workmanship of the coiffure.
The sculpture features stylistic characteristics attributable to Chinese production of the early 19th century, with good workmanship and a pleasing plastical rendering.
The signs of wear, light surface abrasions and the diffuse patina confirm the object's age and enhance its collectible charm.
An object of great elegance, ideal for collectors of Oriental art, netsuke, votive sculptures and items for a cabinet of curiosities.
