Description from the seller
Superb Antique Shiwan Mudware Brush Pot - Late Qing / Early Republic Period
An exceptional example of highly detailed Chinese Shiwan mudware pottery, this brush pot (Bitong) dates to the late Qing Dynasty or early Republic Period (circa 1900–1930s). The Foshan/Canton region is renowned for this expressive, high-relief work.
The composition features a beautifully executed, psychological scene of two aged scholars (Mudmen) in profound conversation beneath a stylized, ancient pine tree. The figures' expressions are rendered with remarkable character and precision, a hallmark of skilled Shiwan masters. The glaze is a classic combination of vibrant Canton blues, browns, and green hues.
This object is in very good antique condition. As is typical and expected for authentic handcrafted Shiwan ware of this period, there are some acceptable imperfections.
