Xiaoning Yu’s 2026 original acrylic painting Persephone, a contemporary portrait on canvas (50 × 40 cm) with a gloss finish, signed by hand, from Italy, with a certificate of authenticity included.
Description from the seller
This painting is inspired by the Pre-Raphaelite aesthetic of Dante Gabriel Rossetti, reinterpreting the myth of Persephone through a more luminous and personal vision.
While Rossetti’s Proserpina is marked by the pomegranate as a symbol of captivity, here the goddess holds a peach — a soft, radiant fruit that evokes life, sweetness, and return. This shift transforms Persephone from queen of the underworld into a figure of renewal and spring.
The chromatic contrast enhances this duality: the deep emerald green of the dress meets the warm tones of copper hair and the glowing fruit, suggesting the passage from shadow to light, from winter to rebirth.
Her gaze, both dignified and enigmatic, gives the figure an almost sacred presence — suspended between classical mythology and contemporary sensitivity.
