Description from the seller
PEUGEOT PX10N (1978) - ICON OF FRENCH RACING - FULL SPIDEL - WEIGHT: APPROX. 10.2 KG
We have the honor to present at auction one of the most emblematic models in the history of French cycling: the 1978 Peugeot PX10N. A true flagship of the Prestige range of the era, this bicycle embodies the golden age of Peugeot workshops. This particular model, kept in an exceptional preservation state, is a rare collectible piece, combining the racing frame’s nimbleness with the timeless elegance of Peugeot’s “pearl white” design.
History and prestige of the model
The PX10 is the bike that forged the legend of the lion brand. Used by the greatest champions of the Team Peugeot-Esso-Michelin, notably by Bernard Thévenet during his Tour de France victories, the PX10N (an updated version from the late 1970s) represents the technical pinnacle before carbon frames arrived. It is a model that dominated professional pelotons thanks to its light weight and stiffness, making it today one of the most sought-after vintage bikes by collectors around the world.
Technical specifications and equipment
This exemplar stands out for its high-end assembly, faithful to the era, with the prestigious “Spidel” groupset, born from the collaboration of the best French manufacturers (Simplex, Maillard, Stronglight) to counter Campagnolo’s hegemony.
frame: hand brazed steel, pure racing geometry.
size: 56 cm (frame size ct), ideal for a rider between 173 cm and 183 cm.
drive: 2x6 speeds with Simplex Spidel derailleurs and shifters, delivering precise and smooth gear changes.
crankset: High-precision Stronglight.
braking: Simplex Spidel calipers and levers, ensuring a coherent aesthetic and optimal performance.
wheels: Spidel Professional hubs by Maillard laced to Super Champion Competition rims (tubular).
aheadset position: Atax Peugeot quill stem with vintage racing handlebars.
seatpost: SR Laprade.
included accessories: original Spidel pedals, bottle cage, and period bell.
Condition
The bike is presented in exceptional condition. It has been preserved, checked, and fully prepared by a specialist (Der Recyclist, Munich). The white paint and Peugeot decals are original and display a sublime patina that attests to its authenticity. The mechanism is fully functional, ready to ride for vintage events like Eroica or to be exhibited in a gallery.
Delivery details
Shipping costs are set at €300. Please note this is a flat-rate estimate. If the actual shipping cost (including professional secure packaging and insurance) turns out to be lower than the amount paid, we commit to refund the difference to the buyer after shipment.
