Four antique opaline-glass vases from France dating to the first half of the 20th century in Art Nouveau style, in excellent condition, with the largest green-bodied vase featuring a hand-painted floral and bird motif and three other vases bearing the same motif in mirrored form, plus a white undecorated vase in a classic shape.

AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Four antique vases, (opaline) glass,
France, first half of the 20th century.

The largest vase of opaline glass has a light-green surface
with a hand-painted depiction of flowers and a bird.
Summery details are applied with glass enamel.
A rather smooth, slightly hollow base.
Height 26 cm, diameter 12 cm.

The two other vases are identical in terms of the depiction.
The images are identical but mirrored.
Executed in matte glass with hand-applied decoration in painting and glass enamel.
Both vases have a base ring at the bottom,
one with a slightly hollow base,
the other with a smooth base.
Height 25.5 cm, diameter 10 cm.

The white undecorated vase stands out for its elegant classical shape.
Nicely drawn glass with small imperfections such as air bubbles.
These imperfections actually reveal the essence of handmade work.
The body of the vase is semi-transparent, inherent to opaline glass.
The bottom and the neck are somewhat less transparent because the glass there is thicker.
In the relatively flat base, a rough pontil mark.
Height 23 cm, diameter 9 cm.

In a display cabinet with lighting these vases come into their own: when light falls from above the effect is many times more beautiful (see photos).
