Description from the seller
A beautiful English pocket watch in 925 sterling silver, late 19th century, weighing 47 grams.
Based on the hallmarks, the case was made by the English silversmith (London) Charles Newton in the year 1882.
The watch is a beautiful specimen with three closures (outer cover on the back of the case to access winding and time setting, inner cover still on the back to access the movement, and front cover to access the dial).
The watch is operating but it runs ahead of the correct time.
Winding and time setting are done with the same key supplied together with the chain.
The white enamel dial is finely decorated with floral motifs typical of the late 1800s and has a slight enamel crazing visible in the photos that does not detract from the piece’s beauty.
The 925 silver case is fully hand-chased and is a true masterpiece of silversmithing.
The glass has no veins or deep scratches, but there are various abrasions from use (visible especially when held to the light, see last photo); overall it is perfectly transparent and allows a clear reading of the time.
The watch is supplied with a nice 18 g silver chain not contemporaneous with the watch, made by the Italian silversmith Laso of Arezzo.
The watch is carefully packaged and insured.
