Plaster boar statue from France, dated to 1930–1940, dimensions 21×27×14 cm, in good used condition with minor signs of age, in Art Nouveau style depicting animals.
Description from the seller
It is a figure that fits very well with that Art Nouveau sensibility that makes even a wild animal look almost poetic. The wild boar appears captured in full impulse, head lowered and body taut, but the ferocity is softened by the way the gypsum ceramic has been modeled: the fur becomes a succession of waves, curls and volumes that recall more an organic lines work than a strictly naturalistic representation.
The polychromy accompanies that reading: the grays and browns of the animal are not flat, but modulated with nuances that bring it to life without losing that slightly stylized touch typical of decorative pieces from the early XX century. The tusks, lighter, add a touch of brightness that guides the eye toward the animal's gesture.
The base, with its small landscape of greens, ochers and yellows, almost functions as a pictorial setting: it does not pretend to imitate real ground, but to suggest an idealized natural environment, full of curves and patches of color that dialogue with the movement of the boar. That combination of dynamism, stylization and a taste for sinuous forms is what gives it that so recognizable Art Nouveau air, where even brute force becomes an elegant and decorative composition.
Insured shipping and careful packaging.
