MARCEAU (1981) - FAMILY

“I do not paint scenes. I sculpt sensations.”

MARCEAU was born in France in 1981. A self-taught artist, far from any academy or institution, he spends years learning on his own to tame matter.
His obsession: bring life to what is flat. For him, a canvas cannot lie — it must be felt before it is looked at. This is how he develops his signature technique: successive layers of oil paint applied with a knife, which literally makes the scene emerge from the relief of the frame.
His subjects are always in motion — a surfer swallowed by a white wave, a skier cutting through an immaculate slope, a golfer lost in an endless green. The figure is small, almost fragile. Nature, on the other hand, is monumental and textured. This contrast is what defines MARCEAU’s signature: the human facing the elemental.
Discreet and autodidact, MARCEAU does not seek to imitate the masters. He seeks to touch — in the literal as well as the figurative sense. Each work is unique and impossible to reproduce identically, because matter, it never lies.
