Description from the seller
David Law
Visual Artist Photographer – Creator of contemporary imagery
Multidisciplinary photographer-artist, author and musician, David Law develops work focused on gaze, presence, and the perception of image in urban space. He first gained recognition with a series dedicated to storefront mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superimpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. Later drawn to the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he extended this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light, and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost living presence, questioning our relationship to illusion and projection.
Series – Faces in Transition
This series offers a contemporary reinterpretation of 1950s/60s pin-up aesthetics through a modern visual approach. Each piece is created using current digital tools, then refined to integrate a painterly texture inspired by oil painting. Pop art and street art elements — drips, textures, and collages — enrich the composition while preserving the subject’s legibility. The whole creates a balance between classical elegance and contemporary visual energy, capturing moments of life that are both light and expressive.
Edition & Fabrication
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist’s proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are made on aluminium with a built-in rear mounting. Printed on bright white vinyl, mounted between two aluminium plates, with soft UV- and humidity-resistant lamination, ensuring excellent durability, long-term stability of colors, and a modern, contemporary look.
Career
Since 2014, David Law has participated in around twenty contemporary art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the appointed photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. In parallel with his visual work, he develops an authorial and musical career including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a comic book, a photo book, and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the group FRENZY.
