Description from the seller
Three-panel folding screen (room divider) of Asian manufacture, made of metal and finished with a red lacquered coating. The piece can be dated to the mid-20th century and features hand-painted decoration inspired by traditional Chinese motifs.
The front surface depicts a stylized landscape composed of mountain profiles, a gracefully curved tree with drooping branches (likely a willow), a small elevated pavilion or terrace structure, and delicate floral elements. Additional decorative motifs include stylized clouds and fine linear details rendered in golden tones. The composition is executed with a light, ornamental brushwork over a red lacquered background.
The structure consists of three hinged panels connected by original metal hinges, allowing the screen to be folded in an accordion manner. Each panel features a shaped upper profile with soft curves, while the lower section includes arched cut-outs that visually lighten the overall form. The reverse side is finished in plain red, without decoration.
Condition is consistent with age and use. The surface shows wear to the lacquer, including scratches, abrasions, minor paint losses, and light oxidation of the metal, particularly along the edges and hinges. These signs contribute to an authentic aged patina typical of vintage pieces. The structure remains solid, stable, and fully functional.
In terms of style, the piece belongs to the oriental decorative tradition, with a chinoiserie influence, and was likely produced in China or Southeast Asia. Originally intended as a room divider, it can be used to partition interior spaces or as a decorative element.
Dimensions: height 117 cm, total width 120 cm.
