Griffon Ailé en Bronze – Fabbrica M. Guggenheim, Venice – Late 19th Century
Fantastic bronze sculpture depicting a fantastic winged griffin with a serpentine body, wings spread and an expressive head with an open beak. Solid cast, finely chased, preserving its original gilt bronze patina.
The piece bears the recessed mark “Fabbrica M. Guggenheim Venezia”, a Venetian manufacture active in the late 19th century, renowned for decorative bronzes inspired by medieval and Renaissance repertoires.
Height: 13.5 cm
Condition: wear to the patina from use, light soiling in the recesses and a small old chip on the back of one wing. No restoration.
