Toso 屠蘇 is a traditional Japanese New Year drink.
It is sake or mirin in which a mixture of dried medicinal herbs (such as cinnamon, Japanese pepper, rhubarb, etc.) is macerated.
It is drunk with family on January 1 to ward off disease and wish for a long life.
This lacquer is made from wood powder (55%) and phenolic resin. It is lightweight, sturdy and resistant to water and heat.
