Description from the seller
The object shown in the image is an antique cigarette case in silver and niello, probably of Russian or Caucasian origin. The deep black contrast on the silver background is achieved with niello, a dark metal alloy consisting of sulfur, copper, silver and lead, melted into the incised grooves of the metal.
It features a dense geometric motif of a stylized four-leaf clover or floral pattern, enclosed by a checkerboard border. This type of symmetrical and repetitive decoration is characteristic of production from Veliky Ustyug in Russia or from renowned Caucasian workshops (such as Kubachi), celebrated between the late 19th century and the early 20th.
The style suggests a period between the late 1800s and the early 1900s (late Imperial Russian period). The marks inside this object are Imperial Russian stamps, which allow dating it with extreme precision to the end of the 19th century. In conclusion, it is an authentic silver and niello cigarette case from the era of Tsar Nicholas II, made in 1834. Interior in vermeil silver.
The hallmarks and the silver designation on both faces of the tobacco snuff box are clearly visible. The lot will be properly packed and shipped with approved couriers and online tracking.
