Description from the seller
Samurai Folding Helmet (Chōchin Kabuto) with Stand
This is a rare Japanese folding helmet (chōchin kabuto) made of iron, presented with a display stand. Chōchin kabuto are collapsible helmets traditionally associated with the Momoyama to Edo period, valued for their functional design and distinctive construction.
The helmet features a segmented iron structure that could be folded for portability, reflecting the practical needs of samurai during periods of warfare and travel. Such helmets are admired for their ingenuity as well as their unique appearance within the broader category of Japanese armor.
The form retains a strong sculptural presence, while the iron surface shows a natural aged patina consistent with traditional metalwork. Folding helmets are less commonly encountered than standard kabuto, making them of particular interest to collectors.
Presented with a stand, the piece is suitable for display as a historical object or decorative artwork.
An appealing example of Japanese samurai armor, suitable for collectors of armor, militaria, and traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
